The next Captain America movie is in the works with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier's Anthony Mackie taking on the mantle of the titular superhero. The film, Captain America: Brave New World, is still far off from its release, but new images have revealed a first official look at two of the movie's lead stars.

First published by Entertainment Weekly, there are two images that were shared publicly after the first footage was screened for attendees at CinemaCon. One image features a close look at Mackie at Sam Wilson, seemingly on guard as he brandishes the shield previously bestowed to him by the previous Captain America, Steve Rogers (Chris Evans). Another photo showcases Mackie's Sam Wilson facing off with Harrison Ford's Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross. Ford takes over the role from the late William Hurt, who last appeared as the character in 2021's Black Widow. The images can be viewed below.

While the footage screened at CinemaCon wasn't released to the public, some details about what was shown have been revealed. The sneak peek featured footage of Ford's "Thunderbolt" Ross welcoming Sam Wilson to the White House, honoring him for his work seen in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Ross tells Wilson that he's needed to help assemble Earth's Mightiest Heroes, but it's not long before trouble breaks out. A group of super-soldiers break into the White House and attack the President, and among them is Carl Lumbly reprising his Falcon and the Winter Soldier role as Isaiah Bradley.

"It made more sense for it to be more of a grounded espionage action movie as opposed to aliens and airplanes coming through portals and s---," Mackie said of the more grounded approach taken with Brave New World. "Even though I've been in so many of them and have seen it all now, the opportunity for Sam to really establish himself as a true action star and Avenger comes with this movie."

Mackie also said that the film is "10 times bigger" than The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, going on to add, "One of the biggest conversations we had from the beginning was for this not to be Falcon and the Winter Soldier — Part 2, for this to be its own movie with its own story, with its own characters."

The film also brings back The Incredible Hulk actors Liv Tyler and Tim Blake Nelson to reprise their respective roles as Betty Ross and The Leader. Rosa Salazar and WWE Superstar Seth Rollins also have unconfirmed roles in the film. Julius Onah is directing with a screenplay co-written with Malcolm Spellman, Dalan Musson, and Matthew Orton.

Brave New World Teases a Bigger Enemy
Missed Watching Trailer, No Problem Watch It Now

"The title implies that there's a new, bigger enemy now; there's a new frontier that we have to conquer," Mackie said of the sequel's title. "From Captain America: The First Avenger to Endgame, the enemy was always good versus bad. Now that we've conquered that, where do we go from here? When the bad guys reappear, in what form are they reappearing? It is a new storyline with new characters, with new beliefs, and it creates a new idea of this new world that we're going into."

Captain America: Brave New World will be released in theaters on Feb. 14, 2025
